I was watching a rerun of an episode of desperate housewives the other day and I was thinking in my head whether or not this material was appropriate for television. ABC is known for being a family television station and this show was being aired at 9 pm when I know from experience that many children are usually still awake. Children tend to flip through channels and stop to watch shows that they seem interested in, and yes they do have those parent controls on televisions now but how many parents actually sit there and spend the time to set it up. What really shocked me was that in this episode they showed a woman running around in a little bra and underwear being her husband for sex. That is something that people tend to see in pornographic videos not on a family television show. Yes this show is more geared to the older crowd but many young children do watch this show with their parents. As much as I love this show I believe that shows like this should be put on at a later time when children are more likely to be sleeping, giving them a less of a risk of watching the show. I strongly believe in protecting children from seeing sex related material on television. I think parents need to pay attention to what their children watch and protect them from seeing obscene things on TV, even if it is just a woman in her bra and underwear. To some young boys that is exciting for them to see on TV. Our society believes strongly in protecting our children from harmful things, and TV is a big one even though many people don’t believe it to be.

isnt 9 oclock the latest prime time slot you got? i know in the central time zone the news is at 10pm
on another note, parenting shouldnt be the responsibility of a network, it should be the responsibility of the parent. if they mark the program appropriately at the beginning, put it on later in the nite, the networks are going their part. if a parent thinks its inappropriate for a child, kick their butt out of the room!
